Today’s reader topic comes from QSFer Amelia Faulkner:
How Science Fiction used to be a risk-taking progressive genre, and now it’s become a relatively conservative one….
Hmmm… we could go a number of directions here. Has sci fi lost its tech mojo because we have become such a tech heavy society? You know, all those things that used to seem so whiz-bang that we now carry around on our wrists and in our pockets?
Has sci fi become less daring in holding a mirror up to our society? Witness the sad puppies and their attempt to pull us back to their self-perceived Golden Age.
What do you think? Is sci fi lacking? How? And why?
