TV: Next Batwoman Will Be a New Batwoman, Not Kate Kane

Batwoman

Rose quit Batwoman last month, stunning fans by announcing her departure from the queer superhero show after just one season. The TV star had blazed a trail with the CW show, playing the out-and-proud vigilante Kate Kane, who takes on the titular superhero mantle.

Although rumours have abounded about why she quit the role, she later posted on Instagram: “I have stayed silent because that’s my choice for now but know I adore you all. I’m sure the next season will be amazing also.”

Now, according to Decider, series bosses have decided to introduce an entirely new lead character rather than recast the character of Kate Kane. According to the publication, a leaked casting call showed that the show was looking to cast a character named Ryan Wilder.

The character was described as a “female, mid-late 20s, any ethnicity”, and the casting call added: “Ryan Wilder is about to become Batwoman. She’s likeable, messy, a little goofy and untamed. She’s also nothing like Kate Kane, the woman who wore the batsuit before her.” The leaked casting call reportedly also specified that Wilder would be an “out lesbian”, and said: “Performers who identify as LGBT+ are encouraged to submit.”
