TV: New Bi Horror Short “UNICORN”, Other Queer Films Premiering on Hulu

Bite-Sized Halloween - Hulu

Season two of 20th Digital Studio’s Bite Size Halloween, a short film series that ranges from horror comedy to psychological thrillers and everything in between, is now available to stream on Hulu. Created by up-and-coming filmmakers, these films will screen across digital and broadcast plaorms Freeform, FX, and Hulu’s Huluween plaorm hub and YouTube channel.

Arbi Pedrossian, 20th Digital Studio VP of Development, says, “This is our most diverse slate yet and we are extremely proud of the filmmakers we worked with this year to safely, in the me of COVID, produce these excellent films. We know audiences will love these twisted, culturally relevant stories and leave wanng more.”

Bite Size Halloween 2021 features 18 emerging filmmakers represenng a spectrum of styles, idenes, countries, and backgrounds. Through both horror and comedy, these shorts take on issues such as race, gender, motherhood, beauty, sexuality, the environment, and workplace safety. The long term goal of 20th Digital Studio’s short film programs is to connue to guide and finance the growth of these arsts’ careers and to transion some of the shorts into longer features. 20th Digital is currently shoong the first feature developed in this way, expected to debut on Hulu in 2022.

This year’s queer crop includes (the LGBT stories on camera and the creators who have self-identified):

Episode 5 – UNICORN (Also Available on YouTube)
In UNICORN, a bisexual man meets an attractive couple to explore the possibilities of life as a ‘unicorn.’– a drama free, emotionally non-threatening third. This short includes themes of bisexuality and polyamory. Writer & actor Charles Gould (he/him) identifies as bisexual or, as he calls it, Bi-sezzie.

Episode 11 – STRUCK (Also Available on Twitter)
Struck depicts a lesbian couple where one of the young women has an electrifying out-of-body experience. Writer and director Nichola Wong (she/her) identifies as part of the LGBT community.

Episode 13 – THE NEW NANNY
With a little magic, the new nanny helps a non-binary child deal with bullies and find self-acceptance.

Episode 14 – RED IS THE COLOR OF BEAUTY
Writer/Director Beck Kitsis (she/her) identifies as part of the LGBTQIA2S+ community.

Episode 15 – FREEBIRTH
FREEBIRTH depicts a lesbian couple’s all-natural birth in the woods turning into an overwhelming nightmare.

Episode 18 – UPROOTED (Also available on Twitter)
Using a little magic to revive a houseplant has unexpected consequences for a lesbian couple in UPROOTED. Writer/Director Ann Marie Pace (she/her) is bisexual and drawn to stories of identity and discovering your inner truth when you don’t just fit one box.
