Chris Pine is happy to see that the Star Trek franchise is finally getting a little gay. The upcoming Star Trek: Discovery TV series for CBS All Access will have a gay character and it was revealed in the recent Star Trek Beyond film that the character of Sulu is gay. ‘Amen, man. News emerged from the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour on Wednesday that CBS All Access’ forthcoming Star Trek series, Star Trek Discovery, will feature a diverse set of new characters, including an all new gay character and a female lead. News broke this week that a group of LGBTQ Star Trek fans had targeted CBS and Paramount Pictures with an online petition for the next captain in the franchise to be queer. That should come as no surprise given the gains by lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgender and queer people in terms of representation in the entertainment medium.
