Black Lightning, a show coming to The CW on January 16, features the title character as a father to two daughters: Thunder and Lightning. And it’s Thunder, played by 28-year-old Nafessa Williams, who is set to make history. The superhero, whose real name in the show is Anissa Pierce, is “timely and necessary,” according to Williams. The directors of Moana have claimed that Disney would be “open” to the idea of a gay Disney princess. Ron Clements and John Musker directed the 2016 film, which introduced Disney’s first Polynesian princess. The pair were also behind The Princess and the Frog, which introduced African-American Disney princess Tiana. SPACE: Sally Ride to Get a Postage Stamp
