FOR READERS: Queering the World

FOR WRITERS Today’s writer topic comes from QSFer Victoria Stagg Elliott: A friend of mine was recently at a presentation at his company. They presented data saying that 6% of Baby Boomers identify as LGBT, 12% of Gen X-ers identify as LGBT, and 24% of millennials identify as LGBT. How could that trend form the basis of a really cool sci-fi novel? Or would there be a backlash that could also form the basis of a really cool sci-fi story? Join the chat

FOR WRITERS: Writing a More Hopeful Future

FOR WRITERS Today’s writer topic comes from QSFer Jana Denardo: (Editor’s note: I’ve reworked this one a bit for current circumstances): I was raised on Star Trek with a happier view of the future than the current trend. In light of the current world events and order, should we be showcasing the idea of rising above the place we find ourselves? How can we do so within the framework of spec fic? Or are we just to broken down and tired to try? Join the chat

FOR WRITERS Today’s writer topic comes from QSFer J. Scott Coatsworth: For all you sci fi prophets, how will people pay for things in the future? More and more people are using mobile phone payments, and BitCoin is making people crazy with its wild fluctuations in value. So… What will money be like in the future? This is a legacy chat. FOR WRITERS: Future Med

Medicine - pixabay

FOR WRITERS Today’s writer topic comes from QSFer Victoria Stagg Elliott: Currently there are several medical procedures that are routinely carried out on infants and children (vaccination, circumcision, etc.) I don’t want to get into the merits of these procedures, but what procedures could you see becoming routine in the future for either adults or children and how could they form the basis of a really cool queer sci-fi novel? SCIENCE: What Will Humans Be Like in a Thousand Years?

Humans in 1000 Years

TechInsider tackled the question, and found that humans will probably incorporate more bionic parts, be taller, and may finally crack the secret to immortality. And after all that time, we will likely be even closer to our machines, if we don’t destroy the planet and ourselves first. By Rob Ludacer and Jessica Orwig – Full Story at SOURCE

FOR WRITERS: Writing a More Hopeful Future

FOR WRITERS Today’s writer topic comes from QSFer Jana Denardo: I was raised on Star Trek with a happier view of the future than the current trend toward dystopias has. I was wondering why, in so many SF (especially) and fantasy pieces we continue to recreate the homophobic barriers we see in real life instead of showcasing the idea of rising above them? (With the understanding of course, there are topics the author wants to tackle within the framework of spec fic). I’d broaden this out a bit to also include writing a vision of a future in general brighter … Read more

STYLE: Hair Dye That Changes Color

Hair Dye

It’s like a mood ring. For your hair. One hair color isn’t cool. You know what’s cool? A billion hair colors. OK, so it’s not quite one billion hair colors. But Pravana, the haircare company behind the Blonde Wand hair iron, just broke the internet with the promise of a magical hair dye that changes color when heat is applied. The brand posted a series of Instagram photos Tuesday that show the hair color in action. In one, purple hair turns pink right before your eyes. In another, a pink, yellow and blue ‘do turns a gorgeous shade of blue-green. … Read more

When the naysayers can no longer ignore the wails and moans of the dying, the Harbinger will already have them by their throats.
