But that’s easier said than done as humans are understandably distrustful and suspicious of sescurei, the official species of the InterGalactic community. Leopold must convince them that Mastrodai’s offer of alliance isn’t a trick, which means diplomacy, patience, and tenacity. Times like this make him grateful that he has two strong mates to lean on. And when it comes to understanding his own people, he’d be wise to follow Alex’s lead.
Alex has been too long away from her family and is thrilled to see them again. But with reunions come old pressures, old doubts, and old wounds. She must negotiate who she was with who she is, while helping her mates and her colony come together with the shared goal of freedom.
Mastrodai, meanwhile, finds himself in the minority for the first time in his life, and the constant hostility has him doubting the wisdom of their choices. But he’s devoted to his human mates and determined to see things through no matter the discomfort… or danger.
Not everyone wants what Leopold and his mates have to give, and he needs to break through the resistance humans have built up after generations of degradation, humiliation, and fear. Four Veruvian Cycles ago, Alexandra Petrov found herself going to an out-of-the-way InterGalatic Community planet, where a small village was established. She really wasn’t suppose to be there, as she’d already had her turn for being out of the ship. But her friend Mila is about to have a baby, and she went with her for support.
Alex’s parents were abusive toward her, but her friend Mila felt that Alex would always be strong and able to help raise a child. But the times are not safe, and the sescureis have found the village. To save those trying to escape, Alex tries to lead them away. The sescurei are known for their cruelty, including the torture, enslavement and murder of those they captured.
As Alex tries to protect the children among the captured, she meets an older man, David. David and Alex become friends but they find themselves placed on the auction block. Fearing the the unknown, Alex prepares herself for the worst possible situation.
But she finds herself in the hands of the elite mrogg, and David ends up by her side. They board the Nebula, and come face to face with Mastrodai. He makes them very aware that they are not slaves but his employees – life is going to be quite different from what they had feared.
Four Vervain Cycles later, Leo aka Voidstriker, has been brought upon the Nebula too. Leo doesn’t understand Mastrodai yet. Mastrodai asks Alex to try and make him understand. Alex is immediately attracted to Leo, and it seems it he may feel the same. But as difficult as it is, she keeps her distance.
Mastrodai is getting ready to release all his employees, to give them their freedom on Lex or another planet of their choosing. Alex will also be given the chance to visit her own world, friends and family. But Mastrodai is not comfortable with the situation between her and Leo and feels like an outsider. Leo, Mastrodai and Alex will all face challenges, As they hope for a better future, will it all turn out to be a mistake?
Alex takes center stage in Resistance, the third book in “Saga of The Bold People” series. Alex tells the story about how she came to be involved with both Leo and Mastrodai. The book has very vivid descriptions, great worldbuilding and all the fun sci-fi gadgets, weapons and ships that the first two did. This universe is filled with different species, of which humankind is only one and there are many dialects and defined genders.
It was a bit jarring to have a third person brought into the Leo and Mastrodai relationship. I liked what Leo and Mastrodai had built in their relationship – they fought hard for each other, even when things became really bad.
This was an enjoyable story, but I still liked Leopold best.

Hi, I’m Maryann, I started life in New York, moved to New Hampshire and in 1965 uprooted again to Sacramento, California. Once I retired I moved to West Palm Beach, Florida in 2011 and just moved back to Sacramento in March of 2018. My son, his wife and step-daughter flew out to Florida and we road tripped back so they got to see sights they have never seen. New Orleans and the Grand Canyon were the highlights. Now I am back on the west coast again to stay! From a young age Ialways liked to read.
I remember going to the library and reading the “Doctor Dolittle” books by Hugh Lofting. Much later on became a big fan of the classics, Edgar Alan Poe, Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker and as time went by Agatha Christie, Ray Bradbury and Stephen Kingand many other authors.
My first M/M shifter book I read was written by Jan Irving the “Uncommon Cowboys” series from 2012. She was the first author I ever contacted and sent an email to letting her know how much I liked this series. Sometime along the way I read “Zero to the Bone”by Jane Seville, I think just about everyone has read this book!
As it stands right now I’m really into mysteries, grit, gore and “triggers” don’t bother me. But if a blurb piques my interest I will read the book.
My kindle collection eclectic and over three thousand books and my Audible collection is slowly growing. I have both the kindle and audible apps on my ipod, ipads, and MAC. So there is never an excuse not to be listening or reading.
I joined Goodreads around 2012 and started posting reviews. One day a wonderful lady, Lisa Horan of The Novel Approach, sent me an email to see if I wanted to join her review group. Joining her site was such an eye opener. I got introduce to so many new authors that write for the LGBTQ genre. Needless to say, it was heart breaking when it ended.
But I found a really great site, QRI and it’s right here in Sacramento. Last year at QSAC I actually got to meet Scott Coatsworth, Amy Lane and Jeff Adams.
