About The Book

Falling for the cute handyman renovating my kitchen probably isn’t a good idea. He’s human and I’m a werewolf. Not to mention, my parents have already picked out a new boyfriend for me. But those green eyes and strong arms are impossible to resist.

AIDEN
Just when I thought things were looking up, my entire life falls apart, thanks to some guy. Now I’ve sworn off men forever since I can’t trust myself to pick the right one. And that’s the moment I met him, the tall, dark, and handsome man with golden eyes. But I can’t have him.My life is crumbling around my ears, and the last thing I need is to complicate it with a man in the picture.

Now if I could just get him to leave me alone…

PARKER
Begrudgingly I came home for the summer to blow off some steam after another failed relationship, intent on spending the summer alone to recover. But when a storm threatens a man out on the lighthouse pier, I run to save him. The moment my hand touches his skin, I hear a single word. Mate. But he’s human, and I’m a werewolf. If I pursue him I’ll be kicked out of the pack. And if I don’t I’ll be miserable for the rest of my life.

All I know is that I can’t resist him. But can a werewolf and a human really find happiness together? I’m willing to sacrifice my place in the pack for him.

Maybe I’ll just create my own pack so we can be together.

TROPES: standalone, hurt/comfort, class difference, human x werewolf, forbidden love, forced proximity, found family, strict roles, and hea.

The Review

Parker, a werewolf, realizes Aiden, a human, is his mate, even though dating a human will damage his relationship with his pack.

The story is very sweet, with well developed main characters, and just enough angst, twists and turns, and trickery (from Parker’s parents and from Aiden’s colleagues) to make it interesting.

If you enjoy a lot of explicit sex in books, you will love this story. If, like me, you skim sex scenes to reach more action outside the bedroom, the book becomes an enjoyable prequel rather than a novel. It’s well written and ends with the possibility of a new pack.

Since the following four novels form the Ombre Pack Chronicles, this is probably what will happen, from book 2 onwards. A nice addition to the shifter romance genre.

The Reviewer

I’ve been doing book reviews on my website, crossposted or linked to various social media, for a few years. I read a number of genres but I really enjoy all kinds of speculative fiction so thought I’d like to share my views with you. I love sci fi and other speculative fiction because of the way it can, at its best, make us see ourselves in a new light. Quite apart from the exciting stories, of course! I used to be an English teacher, and I’m a writer (fantasy) so I can be quite critical about style etc. but I hope I can also appreciate properly some books that don’t appeal to me personally but might be simply perfect for others. I have, obviously, read widely, and continue to do so.
