About The Book

FROM EXCITING AUTHOR OF LGBTQ+ ROMANCE, PELAAM

From the Some Like it Haunted collection

Legend says that at the witching hour creatures of darkness are at their most powerful. Gerald is about to find it’s more than legend.

Gerald Pickering is an actor with a traveling troupe whose next performance is in the lakeside town of Taupo. When he is purposely excluded from the organized accommodations, he has to find somewhere he can stay. When he’s given a card for another motel, he’s warned about the owner’s odd Goth grandson, but the motel is perfect—and even has a hot tub.

Gerald meets Jules and is immediately drawn to him, despite his unique style of dress and his youth. Soon Jules is helping Gerald with his rehearsals during the day and being his lover by night. When Gerald finds that the company accounts aren’t balancing, he shares his concerns with a colleague who, like Gerald, is doubling their duties while the company owner is incapacitated. However, when Gerald is lured into an alley at the witching hour, Jules’ true nature is revealed.

Knowing the truth, will Gerald choose love, irrespective of the form in which it comes?

The Review

Aurora Pendragon and her brother Midnight run an airship company, taking passengers to visit Midnight’s pet pterodactyl and having photographs taken with him and sitting in his nest. Today’s clients are an engaged couple, and it is his engagement gift. Unfortunately as sweet as the girl is. that’s how sour the future groom is. Aurora is not happy with this overbearing, pompous man, but it’s just a short trip, and she can grin and bear it.

Just before takeoff, two men approach Aurora, begging to be taken with them and to go to Italy. Voltaire Crevin and Tresilian Hawke are on a mission to save the world, and Mr. Obnoxious is more than happy to let them take over the trip, especially when Voltaire waves a huge amount of money at him. Midnight feels an instant attraction to Tresilian, and has no problem extending their trip to be around him more.

A weapon capable of destroying the world is out there, and Voltaire and Tresilian need to find it before it is in the wrong hands. This was the very weapon that destroyed Atlantis, and when the full reason for their trip is revealed, Aurora and Midnight are willing to do what they can to help. Even if it means flying into a volcano.

Everything is going well until a huge octopus latches onto Midnight and endangers the ship. Out of nowhere, a woman appears and takes them to safety. Midnight, having been poisoned by the tentacles, is rushed to a doctor.

Survivors of Atlantis are now living below the sea rather than on land, and their friendly demeanor soon proves to be a facade. Like Ferdinand, Voltaire’s enemy and the one with the knowledge of the weapon, the Atlanteans have a specific purpose for the weapon that resides with them.

I don’t want to go into too much detail but this was quite an adventure – mermen a giant octopus and being kept a prisoner, while having to figure out how to save the world and save themselves.  The relationship between Midnight and Tresilian was beautifully written, not an instant let’s jump into bed. There was no lack of excitement, and I read the book in one sitting.

Four stars.

The Reviewer

In writing this bio I am taking a rare break from reading! I always have a book on hand just in case there is time to sneak in a chapter or two. As a military spouse and a mom of two boys, it is amazing how often I am hurrying up to wait. Luckily for me I don’t have a favorite genre so I get lots of fun authors to choose from. My education was in sociology and mental health counseling, so stories with strong character development are my favorites. Happily Ever After is the best part of romance for me because real life is hard enough.
