About The Book

The world is at war, a war determined to involve Eli, whether he likes it or not. Hitler, his dark army of feral vampires, and even the Devil himself, all conspire against Eli, leaving him no choice but to fight back, risking Malachi’s soul in the process.

Eli is determined to find Ethan’s father, no matter the cost to himself or Malachi, and in a place filled with death and unending cruelty, Eli realizes that some truths should remain buried, and some truths are just too terrible to bear. When the old enemy, demons from Eli’s dark past, find him once more, they reveal a secret so impossible, so terrible, that it pushes Eli to the very edge of his endurance. They took his boyfriend from him once, and the secrets that they reveal about the man he once loved threaten to strip Eli of everything that he holds dear, pushing him to the edge of his sanity.

Eli thought that he had nothing left to lose, but at Welwelsburg Concentration Camp, he realizes that he was very wrong.

The Review

This book has so much going on.  The horrors of history are combined with horror in the form of the original vampires.  Nazi Germany and one of their camps is the backdrop for this next volume in the Dead Camp series.  Eli is on the hunt for Ethan’s father with Mal as his sidekick.  This book covers such a dark and hard set of circumstances.  Yet somehow, Kerr sprinkles in these moments, these beautiful moments of hope, tenderness, and love, moments of humanity at its best.  And these moments are needed; otherwise I am not sure I could have gotten through the depths of evil he presented on these pages.  Truly the only reason this series doesn’t get five stars from me is the level of “ew” in the brilliant descriptions.  I had to literally walk away a couple of times and find a lighter read as a palate cleanser.  That is a credit to Kerr as well.  His writing literally had my skin crawling at times.

Kerr has the ability to get such emotional reactions from the reader.  Watching Mal struggle with his feelings for Eli as they contradict the mission he must accomplish is so heart wrenching.  Eli has his own struggles as he must face his emotional self for the first time in years.  This, on top of small vignettes with background characters, all combine to create a true emotional roller coaster of a book.  There are three more books in this series.  I am going to have to invest in some good walking shoes to work off the emotional stress in the rest of these books!  Because I have to see the resolution now.  Dang it Sean Kerr!!!  These are so not my usual choice in books and now you’ve got me all invested.

In writing this bio I am taking a rare break from reading! I always have a book on hand just in case there is time to sneak in a chapter or two. As a military spouse and a mom of two boys, it is amazing how often I am hurrying up to wait. Luckily for me I don’t have a favorite genre so I get lots of fun authors to choose from. My education was in sociology and mental health counseling, so stories with strong character development are my favorites. Happily Ever After is the best part of romance for me because real life is hard enough.
