About The Book

Vampires and werewolves live long lives. The Sleepless City saga might have ended but the story continues…

Welcome to the Vampire Guard, where legend and myth meet science and technology.

Vampires make the best spies. Throw a smart-mouthed werewolf in with three vampires, mix well, and The Vampire Guard’s newest team is bound to become one of their greatest assets. Super spies with a full range of skills. Warrior, hacker, thief, and scientist. They get in, do the job and get out before the bad guys ever know what hit them.

Forge, Blair, Declan, and Lucas are thrust into the world of high-tech spies and top-secret espionage conspiracies. Recruited into the world’s most elite and secret organization with one singular mission. Protect those who can’t defend themselves from ruin.

Life becomes complicated when an impending Presidential visit to their town, Boggslake, throws them headlong into the world of the vampires and werewolves of the Vampire Guard. Very quickly they uncover and confront a werewolf terrorist organization known as the Qiguan.

Together they must thwart an assassination attempt on the open waters of Lake Superior while tracking a previously unknown biological weapon controlled by the Qiguan—a weapon which may very well mean death for one of them.

The Review

Samuel Porter steps through the door and causes havoc for some of Boggslake residents:  Jonas Forge, the head detective; Blair Turner, professor; Lucas Coates, forensic examiner and Declan, thief extraordinaire.

Porter is the head of a unique special investigation unit, Akhkharu Nasaru: The Vampire Guard.  Porter’s team consists of his wife Sophia, Kai Richter and Ori Bier. Porter claims he needs Forge and Lucas’ help, which also gets Blair and Declan involved.  The plot thickens as the four are caught in a scheme by none other than Porter, himself.

When they find out what’s really going on, Forge and Declan aren’t that trusting, especially after the kidnap scheme. But with the idea of joining this unique organization comes curiosity for both Lucas and Blair. Besides Forge’s feelings of trust, he gets a bit jealous when Blair is asked to get close to Bronwen Martell, a visiting professor at the university. Not only is this investigation dangerous, but it opens up to myth, and it could bring anyone of them close to death.

Forge, Blair, Lucas and Declan find out why they were chosen to join the guard.  They have to make an important decision – Is the joining of the guard what they really want? And how much would their lives change?

Elizabeth Noble does an outstanding job at revising and bringing “The Vampire Guard” series back to life. It starts off with a lot of mystery and action, and continues on a wild ride for the foursome. There’s an abundance of background information about Forge, Blair, Lucas and Declan, who first appeared in “The Sleeping City” series. And Lucas’ Uncle Jasper gets caught up in the action too.

This is a fast paced story and a page-turner for me. It’s filled with murder and mythology with danger, action, humor and a little romance squeezed in. It really opens up how all of these characters are special, and each has something unique that they bring to the story. Not only to their work together, but their relationships as close friends. I don’t want to give away the ending, but it’s just a tad sad.

But it doesn’t end there!  The sequel is “Quarry,” and I’m excited to see what chaos Elizabeth Noble will come up with for Forge, Blair, Lucas and Declan!

I highly recommend “The Sleeping City” series as it’s an excellent place to start for more on these characters. Anne Barwell and Elizabeth Noble teamed up to put this wonderful paranormal series together, and it’s worth the read.

The Reviewer

Hi, I’m Maryann, I started life in New York, moved to New Hampshire and in 1965 uprooted again to Sacramento, California.  Once I retired I moved to West Palm Beach, Florida in 2011 and just moved back to Sacramento in March of 2018.  My son, his wife and step-daughter flew out to Florida and we road tripped back so they got to see sights they have never seen.  New Orleans and the Grand Canyon were the highlights. Now I am back on the west coast again to stay! From a young age Ialways liked to read.

I remember going to the library and reading the “Doctor Dolittle” books by Hugh Lofting. Much later on became a big fan of the classics, Edgar Alan Poe, Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker and as time went by Agatha Christie, Ray Bradbury and Stephen Kingand many other authors.

My first M/M shifter book I read was written by Jan Irving the “Uncommon Cowboys” series from 2012.  She was the first author I ever contacted and sent an email to letting her know how much I liked this series.  Sometime along the way I read “Zero to the Bone”by Jane Seville, I think just about everyone has read this book!

As it stands right now I’m really into mysteries, grit, gore and “triggers” don’t bother me. But if a blurb piques my interest I will read the book.

My kindle collection eclectic and over three thousand books and my Audible collection is slowly growing.  I have both the kindle and audible apps on my ipod, ipads, and MAC. So there is never an excuse not to be listening or reading.

I joined Goodreads around 2012 and started posting reviews.  One day a wonderful lady, Lisa Horan of The Novel Approach, sent me an email to see if I wanted to join her review group.  Joining her site was such an eye opener.  I got introduce to so many new authors that write for the LGBTQ genre. Needless to say, it was heart breaking when it ended.

But I found a really great site, QRI and it’s right here in Sacramento. Last year at QSAC I actually got to meet Scott Coatsworth, Amy Lane and Jeff Adams.
