midnighter and dick grayson

DC Entertainment is serving up some superhero-sized man candy in the latest issue of Midnighter, which centers around the openly gay comic book character of the same name. Hitflix reports that Midnighter #4 features Midnighter and former Robin/current Nightwing Dick Grayson facing off against vampires in Russia. While in Moscow, the two end up in a steam room and well…we aren’t complaining about the visuals. See the Full Story at Towleroad.com

Star Wars: Aftermath Introduces a New Gay Hero

Star Wars Aftermath

Take one look at the ragtag Rebellion or walk into any cantina and it’s clear the Star Wars galaxy is packed with the full spectrum of many types of life. But historically, it hasn’t been all that diverse when it comes to the human population. With John Boyega’s Finn, Daisy Ridley’s Rey, and Oscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron, The Force Awakens will be the first Star Wars movie in which the young leads are not mainly white guys. In the new novel Star Wars: Aftermath, author Chuck Wendig takes another step forward for diversity, introducing a major gay character to the … Read more

Discussion: How Readers Influence Writers?

Today’s topic comes from QSFer Anna Butler: Back when I was young (which was a looooong time ago) the thought of writing to and connecting with my favourite author was inconceivable. The mechanisms just weren’t there. I never expected to read a blog by my favourite authors, or have platforms like Amazon and Goodreads where I could comment on their books. They were remote gods to me, no more real than the names on the book spine. But to me the question really is, are we more conscious of the reader than writers ever were before, because there just isn’t … Read more

Werewolf Randall Carter is settling into his new role as Alpha. For a man used to a lifetime of bullying and abuse this is a terrifying change, and it’s taking … Read more

Discussion: Using Really Foreign Languages

Language Word Cloud

Today’s topic comes from QSFer Ruff Bear: I just started a story in which a character is called l’bkh!’dar, which is close to “bright light” in Marathi, a language spoken in western India. The exclamation mark is used to mark a clicking sound common in southern African languages. How do people feel about hard to pronounce names for characters? How do people feel about using non-Latin writing systems and non-English languages (with or without translation)? I’ve used Italian in a couple of my stories, but of course it’s still fairly similar to English – same basic character set, many similar … Read more

Nighttime Wishes

Today, author MA Church is stopping by to talk about writing and the re-release of her sci fi book Nighttime Wishes. QSF: Let’s start with you telling us a little bit about yourself: MA: I’m forty-six, been married for over twenty years (to the same man no less, lol) and have two grown children who live on their own. No, I didn’t suffer empty nest syndrome. Didn’t have a chance to, lol. I see them more now than when they lived at home! I’m a huge football nut (go Steelers!). Don’t get between me and the TV during a game. … Read more
