New Release: Raphael’s Return – C.J. Dragon

Raphael's Return - C.J. Dragon

QSFer C.J. Dragon has a new MM sci-fi romance out, Archangel book 3: Raphael’s Return.

It was a year of change and healing, heartbreak, and renewal.

On his way to reunite with his First Consort, Lord Teo receives unwelcome news from Chi’NoSa Prime.

He is ordered to return to perform a duty he hoped to be spared.

There is no recourse except obedience.

Raphael, changed from his time spent with the Chi’NoSa, discovers that his gifts set him apart from his peers, causing them to shun him.

As his family and a few friends are the only colonists to support him, Raphael spends much of his time alone, removing himself from the cacophony of other minds.

When the wait for his lord’s return is finally over, Raphael assumes his place on the Golden Falcon, hopeful they can live in harmony as they look for new worlds.

Returning to Chi’NoSa Prime was not part of the plan.

Neither was an unwanted duty.

A duty that would change them both, leading them to a Queen who would ask for their future, and may change the Chi’NoSa and humanity forever. What will they have to give in order to save both their species?

TW: Violence and adult sexual situations.

Raphael walked over to his ship, touching her hull gently. “I am here at last, Agatha. I hope you are not too angry with me.”

The ramp lowered quickly without Agatha saying a word. Raphael sighed and went inside his irascible ship, attempting to give her a smile.

“Agatha, mo chroi, I didn’t come because I have been working at the new dome. After a day of that, I’m not fit to visit anything other than the baths and bed.”

There was a sound like static just before Agatha spoke. “Mo chroi, indeed, Archangel. Don’t be calling me ‘my heart’ when I clearly am not. I know you’ve been working hard, but have you not a comm in the city? You could call me Raphael, even if you are too tired to shuttle here. I cannot come to you after all.”

Raphael bowed his head, thoroughly chastened. “You are right, my Agatha. I have been thoughtless of you. Would you like my excuses or simply my apology? I have plenty of the first, but will not bore you with them. Please forgive me, my sister. I have been wrapped up in my own thoughts. I did not mean to ignore you.”

There was a moment of silence, broken only by a sigh from Agatha.

“My brother, you know I forgive you, no matter how much I want to space you sometimes. You have news to share, my Archangel? I can see you vibrating with the desire to tell me.”

Raphael smiled, giving his ship a respectful bow to show his thanks for her forgiveness. “I have news to share, but wonder now if I should ask, as I have been a poor brother and friend to you recently.”

Agatha gave her equivalent of a chuffing laugh. “Let me relieve you of your worry, my Raphael. Lord Teo is on his way back to you. You would like me to take you back to his ship and remain with you.”

Raphael shook his head, fighting back a smile. “Why do I always forget you are linked to Communications? I know you find it difficult to be away from the Colony, so please tell me truthfully. I would be happy if you delivered me to the Golden Falcon. You don’t have to stay unless you choose to.”

Agatha gave the machine analog to a snorting sound. “I would allow no other ship to take you back to your husband. I will not leave you alone there, for Lord Teo has yet to earn my complete trust.” Raphael made a protesting sound as Agatha continued, “Yes, I know you trust him and that is well for you. My trust is not given so easily—not after what he has done. My answer is yes, I will convey you to your lord. I will stay to support you or bring you home, however it goes. May the Lady help Teo if he causes you any harm, for I have not forgotten my promise to him of retribution if he does.”

Raphael shook his head, looking patiently at his ship. “Agatha, I am First Consort now. Teo cannot hurt me, as it is against their laws. Even if that was not so, he will not harm me again, as we have linked ourselves together in a bond that cannot be broken.”

Agatha made a derisive sound. “So you say, so you believe. Nevertheless, I will hold Lord Teo to what he promised, and will remind him of mine.”

Her Archangel sighed in exasperation. “Stubborn Agatha. At least I know better than to argue with you. Thank you for your willingness to come with me to the Falcon, then stay with me. I don’t enjoy being away from you, my recent lapse notwithstanding. I will be speaking with Teo later today. No doubt you will know his arrival time before I do, but I will at least comm you to let you know if I cannot come here to tell you in person. Now—have you been following the new dome construction? Do you have any idea who is moving over there when it is done?”

Agatha filled him in on the latest gossip and her knowledge of the moves and transfers that would occur when the dome was complete. She and Raphael had a good, long conversation, much as they had in the past. Finally, Raphael asked her to call Mick to come pick him up, since Teo would call soon. After she did so, he touched her bulkhead.

“Lady keep you, my sister, and know that I love you despite your endless stubbornness.”

Agatha replied with a smile in her voice. “Lady keep you, my Archangel, and know that I love you despite your endless optimism.”

Raphael smiled at that and leaned against her for a moment longer. Agatha lowered her ramp as Mick rolled up. Raphael murmured, “I will see you soon,” as Agatha kissed him with a little breeze from her vents, leaving him secure in her love.
