“And that, Brand, is the point. You know I love all the things we do.” I pause, pick up my own bacon strip. “But we are doing them entirely too much.”
“You started it.”
“I did not.”
“Did too. And you do. At least half the time, you do.”
I can’t argue with that. From that first night, I’ve reached for him and he for me again and again. We go at sex like it’s about to be repealed. Until we fall asleep and wake up and go at it again. Unless we stumble to the cafeteria, gorge like ravening beasts, and race back to bed.
We tell ourselves we are learning about each other, but that’s not it. It’s much deeper, much worse. We are learning how to make love to each other and, well, still learning about love. Lust with emotion, a most dangerous thing.
Do our minds understand what our bodies are doing? Do our hearts? And is there even time for this, what with classes and wrestling (and secret stratagems to save the world)? After an award-winning career in news editing, I retired as managing editor of a legal news magazine in 2018. It may seem like, in the ensuing years, I turned from nonfiction to fiction, and not just any genre, but gay romance. (Dirty old man.) Truth is, I’ve been writing stories, scripts, poems, books and plays since age 14; it just that, in almost all cases, I never sought publication. Strange what having time on your hands can do. So, at the tender age of 70, I published my first MM, interracial erotic novella in December 2021. I want believable stories, so I use my 45 years of news research to put some reality in my work.
