New Release: A Little Bit of Magic – Lily Lamb

A Little Bit of Magic - Lily Lamb

QSFer Lily Lamb has a new MM fantasy romance out: A Little Bit of Magic.

Efe swore he’d never get involved with another man after catching his partner in bed with their neighbor, who happens to be Efe’s close friend. Furious and hurt, he sells his estate. Having quit his prestigious job, he moves to a small town, Elmhurst. He likes living by himself in the woods in his large log cabin, being one with nature. The thing is, Efe wants to hire a housekeeper.

Samh, a mysterious arrival in town, kept getting sacked for playing with children’s toys by his employers instead of cleaning homes. He became the butt of the jokes in his Fae World, so he runs away to a new realm to start afresh.

Things get a lot more complicated when Efe hires Samh as his housekeeper. All the vows Efe made to himself about relationships and Samh wanting to turn a fresh page come to a grinding halt when these two men are drawn to each other. Sometimes, sprinkling a little bit of magic, patience, and a few toys can turn all hurt and desires into reality.

Warning: Adult fantasy gay romance with explicit scenes. This story is a stand-alone, but it is preferable to have read Daddy In Training to get acquainted with Faine and his mate David.

Excerpt

……. My master’s sudden presence startled me. He made me stand before him after he caught me playing with the toy. A booming voice made me cringe in shame, “Samh… You really can’t help yourself, can you? How many times have we asked you not to play with our children’s toys?

We hired you to keep our home clean….” He sighed before breaking my heart with his cutting words, “ It’s true, isn’t it? You’re nothing like your kind, a proper house-cleaning hobgoblin… Are you? Answer me!”

Right then, I wanted to disappear and hide inside the old wardrobe in the barn where I had slept during the night since working here several full moons ago.

The wardrobe was a snug home- cozy and warm, like I belonged there. But it wasn’t going to remain my home much longer. I could feel it. I saw it in my master’s eyes. I was about to lose my employment, which meant that my wardrobe would belong to another brownie…a better and more efficient one.

Not this silly Samh who loved to play with toys.

I wanted to hide and ignore this awful feeling of shame and aloneness. The Fae folk didn’t understand that I judged myself more than any of them. But, no. I didn’t want to keep looking at my master’s stone-cold disdain as he waited for me to respond. The longer he remained silent, the worse I felt. My insides shriveled from dread. He just quirked his brow and waited for me to explain what I was doing with the doll in my arms as if she was a baby who needed a big cuddle… like me. My knees visibly trembled, and don’t get me started about feeling lightheaded.

The delicate toy started to feel heavy in my hands.

After washing the floors, I was meant to empty the bucket of soapy dirty water. But once my gaze zeroed on the little Fae doll, I dropped the bucket, not realizing that the crystal floor was now covered in muddy water. It was looking worse than before I cleaned it. Things went wrong when I entered the room and dropped to my knees to play with her.

Ugh! No wonder the master was annoyed with me.

The toy didn’t belong in my ugly bony hands with crooked fingers. Well, they used to be straight fingers, but my previous master, a sorcerer, punished me by breaking my fingers for damaging his son’s toy.

Once a sorcerer’s magic spell is uttered, it cannot be undone unless the owner reverses it. Since the meanie sorcerer master saw my punishment as fitting for breaking the toy despite it being by accident, he refused to reverse the spell after throwing me out of his house. Even the Guardian Faine couldn’t change the meanie’s mind and repair my fingers.

Nobody seemed to understand my love of playing with toys. The toys felt more magical than anything else in our realm! Playing with toys made me forget my woes and stay in my little world where I wasn’t a weird brownie but a carefree one without a worry.

While I gently laid the pretty Fae doll on its bed, I felt my chin tremble as my chest ached in sorrow. The tiny crystal doll was unlike anything I had seen before, let alone touched. She was so pretty and dainty, even though the master’s daughter played with her so roughly.

The doll’s frilly dress was weaved from threads produced by Silver Orb Weaving

Spiders. It made my three hearts beat so fast from all directions. You’d think there were a bunch of unicorns galloping in my chest before taking off, flying somewhere beyond the rainbow.

The first time the master’s mate caught me playing with her daughter’s toys, she accepted my apology after I cleaned the doll with my magic dust and replaced it where I found it. It hurt me that she made me clean it because I had washed my hands so many times with scalding water before I picked her up. Now, for the fourth time I was caught, all my plans for a future here were

ruined. I was a homeless brownie again…..
