QSF’er Anastasia Vitsky is guest-posting today for our F/F celebration! Take it away, Ana!
Queer Sci Fi has become one of my favorite places to hang out on the internet. There’s no drama, no silly games, and no endless advertising. Instead, we have honest-to-goodness discussions every day. Civil discussions! Thoughtful discussions!
I love Queer Sci Fi.
I don’t, however, love some of the comments people have occasionally made about F/F speculative fiction. (“What’s F/F?” you ask? Case in point.) A while back, QSF hosted a discussion about overused tropes in F/F fiction. The responses ranged from, “Is there even enough F/F fiction to have tropes?” to “I thought you meant fan fiction.”
I accept that QSF, like many queer groups, skews toward the M/M experience. What’s special about QSF is that it truly does welcome all, despite these occasional unfortunate comments. As Lynn V. demonstrates so capably in her list of 30 F/F sci fi, fantasy, and paranormal books she read last year, there is plenty of good F/F (and by F/F I mean Female/Female) speculative fiction available. Don’t believe me? Check out Lynn’s post for yourself!
Group administators Scott and Angel agreed with me, and they asked what we could do. “How about a day celebrating F/F?” I asked, and they agreed immediately. Scott went a step further, suggesting that F/F should rule the world…or at least QSF. Who am I to disagree?
In addition, this entire weekend is devoted to Sci Spanks*, a FREE author-reader event to promote kink-friendly speculative fiction of all pairings, heat levels, and genres. If it doesn’t occur in the natural human world, it’s fair game for Sci Spanks!
Please visit https://governingana.wordpress.com/ to register for the event, find links for the stories, and enter your comments for a chance to win the grand prizes including a brand-new Kindle (or equivalent Amazon gift certificate), gift card to Etsy, or any number of gift certificates and book bundles.
Mention in your comments and/or registration that you are from QSF to receive TWO extra prize entries!
Deadline for Sci Spanks entries is midnight EDT on Sunday, June 14. For questions, please ask Anastasia Vitsky and/or visit the Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/124754724522784/
Let’s celebrate F/F speculative fiction! Come and join the fun. Today, we’ll be hosting discussion and giveaways in the QSF Facebook group. Authors taking part include Olivia Starke, Erzabet Bishop, Jessica E. Subject, Leigh Ellwood, Louisa Bacio, Cathy Pegau, Erik Schubach, and Anastasia Vitsky.
Who’s ready to rule the world?
*Please note that, in the spirit of non-discrimination, a few of the Sci Spanks stories are M/F, but the majority is not. You must be 18 or the age of majority in your area to play.
