UK theme park Alton Towers has unveiled a new virtual reality rollercoaster called Galactica, to be opened in April this year. It is the first new opening since the crash of its Smiler coaster last year, which injured 16 people and resulted in leg amputations for two victims. The incident saw visitor numbers plummet. Despite the plot holes and consistency drawbacks of Star Wars: The Force Awakens — don’t get me started — one of the positive things about the film was that the special effects (which were awesome) did not try to upstage the story. Last year’s CES brought us Belty, a monstrosity of a wearable that aimed to track changes in your waistline as a means of delivering health insights. It was hideous.
