Batwoman fans are urging HBO to save the queer superhero series after news broke that it won’t be returning for a new season. The second and third series of the show followed former convict Ryan Wilder (Javicia Leslie) as she takes on the mantle of Batwoman to protect Gotham City. Leslie became the first-ever Black Batwoman when she took on the role from Ruby Rose back in 2020. Stranger Things star Maya Hawke has spoken about how her character Robin Buckley’s “queerness is just an aspect of her personhood”. Ahead of the release of the fourth season of Stranger Things, which will be released on Netflix in two volumes on 27 May and 1 July, Hawke told the latest issue of SFX about the importance of LGBT+ characters in sci-fi. Talisa Garcia has become the first out trans actress to be cast by Disney in a Lucasfilm production. The Baptiste star has been cast in the upcoming Willow series, which will see her star alongside Warwick Davies as he reprises his role from the 1980s fantasy hit. Two LGBT+ superheroes have been officially been cast for the upcoming Batman spin-off series, Gotham Knights. Tyler DiChiara and Fallon Smythe will play siblings in The CW pilot, Variety reported, with a view to becoming series regulars. Based on the DC comic series of the same name, Gotham Knights takes place after the death of Bruce Wayne, aka Batman.
