The world’s largest LGBTI short film festival, the Iris Prize, is set to return to Cardiff, Wales, from 12-16 October. This will be the festival’s tenth anniversary… The shortlisted movies for the main Iris Prize were selected from over 300 submissions, while the Best of British prize (sponsored by Pinewood Studios), come from over 100 entries. Highlights in the latter category include the wittily-titled Sauna The Dead, a 20-minute gay zombie bathhouse movie, and the downbeat and gritty G O’Clock, which offers an inside look at the chemsex party scene. The upcoming Star Trek: Discovery TV series for CBS All Access will have a gay character and it was revealed in the recent Star Trek Beyond film that the character of Sulu is gay. ‘Amen, man. A gay storyboard artist for the children’s TV show Steven Universe has deleted her Twitter after being harassed by fans. Lauren Zuke, an openly gay staffer on the show, posted a drawing of two characters Lapis and Peridot on her Tumblr. Fans were angry Zuke was showing support for shipping the two characters, instead the more popular pairing of Peridot and Amethyst. They accused Zuke of ‘queer-baiting’ them with a same-sex relationship on the show, according to the Daily Dot. There’s going to be a superhero musical cross-over starring the Flash and Supergirl. The announcement was made by the CW’s Greg Berlanti – who executive produces a number of superhero TV shows, including Arrow (Stephen Amell), The Flash (Grant Gustin) and most recently Supergirl (Melissa Benoist).
