ENTERTAINMENT: Steven Universe – the Perfect Cartoon for Adults

Steven Universe

Television wasn’t a big part of my life growing up, since my parents refused to shell out for cable on principle. Now that I’m an adult, I feel like I’m making up for lost time in watching what is ostensibly kids’ programming. Like millions of others, my current TV-Y7 obsession is Steven Universe. Created by Adventure Time’s Rebecca Sugar, Steven Universe tells the story of a magical young boy whose adventures with three ageless, shape-shifting space rocks will decide the fate of the planet. It’s got all the absurdity I crave to take my mind off my own problems, but … Read more

American Gods Gets Gay and Steamy

American Gods

The series American Gods has aired what some critics have called “the single hottest and most pornographic gay sex scene ever put on mainstream television.” As Towleroad’s Adam Rhodes reported earlier this month, the new series, adapted from Neil Gaiman’s 2001 novel of the same name, tells the story of a battle between old and new gods in an American setting and features a steamy sex scene between Omid Abtahi, who plays a young Muslim man named Salim living in New York, and Mousa Kraish, who plays a spiritual messenger, or jinn, disguised as a taxi driver. Why Bisexual Visibility Matters

Wonder Woman

For a long time, I thought self-acceptance of my bisexuality was enough. No one asked me for a label and I experienced very little overt discrimination. I toyed with the idea of telling my folks early on, but an older lesbian friend of mine advised against it. She knew that coming out to family could be difficult at the best of times, but the limited awareness and stigma associated with bisexuality in the 90s made it even harder. Thanks to the increasing profile of bisexual+ celebrities, such as Evan Rachel Wood and Alan Cumming, bisexuality has become far more visible … Read more

TRAILER: Blade Runner 2049

Blade Runner 2049

The full-length trailer for Blade Runner 2049 has finally arrived, and, let’s get this out of the way first: It looks amazing. With cinematography by infinite Oscar nominee Roger Deakins and production by Dennis Gassner, the world of Denis Villeneuve’s sequel looks to rival Ridley Scott’s original for misty dystopian moodiness, with just a touch of Only God Forgives thrown in for good measure. (Gassner and Deakins have worked together many times before, including on Skyfall and The Hudsucker Proxy, so it seems only reasonable to assume that Blade Runner 2049 will look like a cross between the two.) Call … Read more

Keiynan Lonsdale

Keiynan Lonsdale, the Australian actor best known for his role as Wally West, or Kid Flash, on The CW’s The Flash, has come out as bisexual in a moving Instagram post. “I like to change my hair, I like to take risks with how I dress, I like girls, & I like guys (yes), I like growing, I like learning, I like who I am and I really like who I’m becoming,” Lonsdale writes. He goes on to explain that he no longer wishes to spend any more time in self-hatred, or entertain the untrue belief that he is less … Read more
