TV: Supergirl Casts Nicole Maines as TV’s First Trans Superhero

Supergirl has cast a transgender actress to play a superhero. The CW series, which stars Melissa Benoist, has had multiple fan-acclaimed LGBT plot arcs over the years.  But the show will be taking another big step in its upcoming fourth season – by adding a transgender superhero to the cast. FILM: “Birds of Prey” DC Film to Feature Lesbian Hero

A new DC film is set to feature a lesbian superhero for the first time in the franchise’s history. Birds of Prey, a spin-off from Academy Award-winning film Suicide Squad, will see Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn assemble an all-female group of heroes, according to TheWrap. Steven Universe Creator – “I’m Non-Binary”

Rebecca Sugar, creator of cartoon series Steven Universe, has come out as non-binary. Speaking to NPR’s 1A, Sugar revealed the main characters in the series – called Gems – are all non-binary women. She then said: ‘And I am also a non-binary woman.’ Sugar said it’s ‘been really great to express myself through these characters because it’s very much how I have felt throughout my life.’ The 31-year-old also identifies as bisexual and is the first woman to solely create a Cartoon Network show.
