Doctor Who star Mandip Gill has confirmed that the romance between Yaz and the Doctor will be featured in the upcoming Easter special. Fans were over the moon to witness the beginnings of a relationship form between the 13th Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) and Yaz (Gill) in the New Year special “Eve of the Daleks”. MCU To Get First Trans Woman for “Ironheart” Streaming Series
Marvel’s upcoming Ironheart series will reportedly introduce the first trans woman to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A casting call for the Disney Plus series has revealed that bosses plan to add a “smart, confident” trans woman into the mix. According to POC Culture, the character will have “a mystical bent and unique sense of humour”, and be “unapologetically nerdy about things that excite her…even if they might be terrifying to others”. Disney Promises Huge Increase in Characters From Underrepresented Groups
Disney wants 50 per cent of its TV characters to be from underrepresented groups such as the LGBT+ community and people of colour, according to a leaked meeting. The revelations come from clips of a Walt Disney Company meeting titled “reimagine tomorrow”, leaked to social media by Conservative activist Christopher Rufo, who has been credited with creating the Conservative panic over critical race theory. Although the clips Rufo posted were obviously intended to spark outrage among anti-LGBT+ Twitter users, they actually point to some positive steps being taken by Disney. Full Story from Pink News
TV: Elliot Page’s “Umbrella Academy” Character to Come Out as Trans
The Umbrella Academy season three will reintroduce Elliot Page’s character as Viktor Hargreeves. Page, who shared that he is transgender in December 2020, has starred in both season of the hit Netflix show. After the actor came out it was reported that there wouldn’t be any change to his character, who has so far been portrayed as a woman. But Elliot Page shared an an exciting update with fans. Ariana DeBose has made history by becoming the first openly queer woman of colour to win an Oscar for her towering performance in West Side Story. DeBose beat out stiff competition from Jessie Buckley, Aunjanue Ellis, Kirsten Dunst and Judi Dench to take home the prize. Special Edition of “Heartstopper” Graphic Novel Released to Coincide With Netflix Series
A special edition of gay graphic novel series, Heartstopper is being released alongside the upcoming Netflix adaption. The much-anticipated adaption of the best-selling YA series, by Alice Oseman is arriving on the streaming platform on 22 April. Oseman has announced that fans can get a tie-in version of Heartstopper Volume One, with a new cover featuring the show’s stars. A same-sex kiss cut from Pixar’s Toy Story prequel Lightyear has been reinstated after backlash over Disney’s response to Florida’s terrifying ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill. Disney has faced international criticism over its its political donations to Republicans pushing the bill, which would ban LGBT+ topics in classrooms, and for its lack of action in opposing the bill, prompting employee walk-outs and protests.
