FILM: Is Spiderman Bi? One Fan Thinks So…

Biderman

It’s official, everyone: Spider-Man is bisexual. At least, that’s according to a fan who went viral after spotting that Tom Holland’s superhero had portrayed a bisexual meme in Avengers: Infinity War. Last year, the concept spread across the internet that, in its own words, “cuffing ur jeans and tucking in baggy shirts is bisexual culture.” And as it turns out, during the web-slinging teenager’s first scene in the record-breaking blockbuster, he proudly shows off his cuffed jeans while hanging off the side of a schoolbus. One eagle-eyed viewer spotted the fashion choice, tweeting that “peter cuffs his jeans yall … Read more

FILM: Deadpool 2 Features a Lesbian Superhero Couple

Deadpool 2 Lesbian Couple

Deadpool 2 is finally here – and reports of a same-sex romance in the film were true. The film, released on Tuesday, brings back Ryan Reynolds as everyone’s favourite dirty-talking, R-rated superhero. Brianna Hildebrand makes a comeback as moody teenage mutant Negasonic Teenage Warhead, but this time she’s very much not alone. Early in the film, the X-Men character introduces her new girlfriend – the badass mutant Yukio (Shioli Kutsuna). By Nick Duffy – Full Story at Pink News

Deadpool vs. Eurovision

Deadpool vs. Eurovision

Pansexual superhero and all-round badass Deadpool is mad about Eurovision. In a typically topical and humorous new promo for Deadpool 2 – which comes out on May 16 – Ryan Reynolds’ charming character takes on a new foe: Canada’s inability to enter the best singing contest on earth. A total of 43 countries have entered Eurovision this year – and before you say Canada isn’t European enough to take part, Deadpool and other fans of the annual competition will tell you that Australia, Azerbaijan and Israel fit in just fine. VIDEO: Deadpool Dancing in Heels. You’re Welcome.

Deadpool in Heels

The new promo clip for Deadpool 2 is an epic combination of Ryan Reynolds in heels, Celine Dion, modern dance and a philharmonic orchestra. Because Deadpool doesn’t do things by halves. Reynolds shared a new promo clip for the upcoming movie on his Twitter account and it features famous warbler Dion. The singer commands the stage – as usual – in a white gown while Marvel’s favourite anti-hero prances around her, gracing the planks with sleek and sexy moves – all while sporting stilettos. The video is about four minutes long and also features scenes from the movie. Showtime, Mama. … Read more

COMICS: Who Should Be the First Queer Avenger On the Big Screen?

Okoye and Ayo, Black Panther

As Avengers: Infinity War comes out to the public this week, with its dozens of superheroes, the lack of LGBT representation will be painfully clear. After all, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) contains precisely zero queer superheroes. In fact, whenever the company has the chance to incorporate one of its many, many LGBT characters into a global blockbuster, it balks at the opportunity. This even means erasing scenes which reveal a queer character’s sexuality, as happened with Thor: Ragnarok‘s Valkyrie. Or, more likely, it can mean ignoring canon developed for years, sometimes even decades, in the pages of Marvel’s comic … Read more

FILM: New Short Musical Film Takes on Coming Out, Time Travel

Closets the Musical

We are all used to the idea of coming out of the closet. But in my new musical, Closets, two teens step into a closet to time-travel in LGBTI history. My original short film, Closets, is about two gay teenagers, one living in 1986 and the other in 2016. Both have the same bedroom and their wardrobe is a portal between the two periods, so they can meet. How Closets came into being I had made my first LGBTI feature films aged 20 to 27. I financed them mainly by credit cards with fingers crossed, and often met with mixed … Read more

FILM: Mulan Bisexual Icon Removed from Live Action Version of Film

Li Shang

Bisexual icon Li Shang has seemingly been removed from Disney’s live-action remake of Mulan – and fans are outraged. Shang won over bi fans everywhere in the original 1998 film, with many adoring Disney’s apparently unintentional creation of a character who is clearly attracted to both Mulan and her male alter-ego, Ping.  As one person has put it, “shang is giving mulan the exact same look even when he thought she was a man THIS BISEXUAL TEA”. But according to a casting call unearthed by Twitter account nerdyasians, Disney has engaged in literal bi-erasure, eliminating the subject of so many … Read more

SPACE: Wanna See the Earth From Orbit, But Don’t Have $20 Million?

One Strange Rock

Looking down at the vast curve of planet Earth hundreds of miles below, I can see its white cloud cover stretching over expanses of blue ocean. This may be the closest I’ll ever get to outer space, but I haven’t left Midtown Manhattan. I’m peering at our distant world using a special “space” helmet that re-creates the dizzying sensation of hovering far above the planet. Displayed across my visor — and on those of my fellow “astronauts” in the seats of a small theater — were excerpts from “One Strange Rock,” a new documentary series from the National Geographic Channel … Read more

ANALYSIS: Why Racists Hate “A Wrinkle in Time”

A Wrinkle in Time

A Wrinkle in Time was a must-see film for me. And completely different from Black Panther. It doesn’t mean, however, Ava Duvernay’s $100 million dollar film with a multicultural cast isn’t without problems. It is one of the reasons the film has received mixed reviews unlike Black Panther’s ongoing and wildly enthusiastic critical appraise. While it is wrong to expect from Duvernay what was achieved by Ryan Coogler’s blockbuster hit just because they are both African-American film directors – and moviegoers have never experienced back-to-back films with black actors as leads – the critiques about Duvernay’s interpretation of Madeleine L’Engle’s … Read more

The “Guardians of the Galaxy” star is currently preparing to star in the Angels in America Broadway revival, Pace gave an interview to W Magazine. In it, he was asked about his sexuality and dating life, which is where he made the revelation. But he said he thought questions about sexuality were “intrustive” and that he was surprised to be asked. He told the magazine: “I’ve dated men.
