Time for the First Ad on the Moon?

Pocari

Most people outside of Asia are unfamiliar with Pocari Sweat, a Japanese sports drink that tastes like Gatorade and resembles, well, sweat. That might change when Pocari Sweat becomes the first product advertised on the surface of the moon. In the latter half of 2016, an American firm devoted to space exploration, Space X, plans to land a rover on the moon. Among the rover’s cargo: a can of Pocari Sweat, which will be left on a lunar plain near a giant crater named Buerg. The goal, as stated by Pocari Sweat, is for a modern-day child to someday become … Read more

It will challenge the seemingly easy process of determining what is right and wrong … Read more

Wild Cards

Young Protectors

When I was a kid, I used to imagine that I could fly. I really thought if I just thought about it hard enough, I could leave terra firma and soar into the heavens like Superman, but evidently I didn’t think quite hard enough. Later, I saw the movie Somewhere in Time, where a man surrounds himself with memorabilia from an earlier age and then imagines himself back to that time. I tried that too, but found I couldn’t manage the time travel trick either. All of us have, at one time or another, wished that we had abilities beyond … Read more

A Straight Fan Wants More Gay Comic Book Heroes

Catwoman

I am a straight guy and a comic book fan. Exactly the kind of person the studios are worried about upsetting by having LGBTI superheroes. So why am I actually surprised and disappointed there are so few gay heroes in comic books? Firstly, it’s important to recognize that, while there are too few, that doesn’t mean there are none. Some names immediately pop into my head, mostly found in comics by the Big Two publishers; Marvel and DC. There is, for example, Catwoman who – in her latest interpretation – is at least bisexual; but I guess nobody was really … Read more

Ana’s Spoons – The Monthly QSF FF Takeover

Ana's Spoons

Welcome to the third monthly celebration of F/F fiction! F/F, by the way, stands for Female/Female (not Fan Fiction) pairings that may or may not be romantic. Today I’d like to kindly ask you to refrain from promoting your own books, friend’s books, publisher, or other services. The goal for today’s discussion is to establish a common ground for future F/F discussions and give new readers a place to start. What was the first F/F speculative fiction book you ever read? Or what was the most influential, and why? Please, as always, keep the discussion focused on F/F only. Also … Read more

Discussion: Why Do We Adore Super Heroes?

Young Protectors

Today’s topic comes from QSFer Blaine D. Arden: What is the attraction of Super Heroes? (cause, while I enjoy them in films… I’m really boggled about the attraction in fiction). Hmmm… let’s unpack this a bit. For me, I have always loved the inherent *goodness* in super heroes. The idea that there’s a real force for truth and justice out there. Yeah, I know, not all super heroes are purely good – in fact, many have a dark side, which surely adds to their three dimensionality as characters. But sometimes it detracts from their overall superheroiness, at least for me. … Read more

Jonah Bergan on Star Trek Renegades (or How I Made a Fool of Myself in No Time At All)

Jonah Bergan on Star Trek Renegades or How I Made a Fool of Myself in No Time At All by Jonah Bergan Respect is important, and if anyone understands that, it’s the fans of Star Trek. Those who know me know I am respectful of others. They know I am an even tempered man. I am not prone to anger or rather; I am not prone to angry outbursts. I’ve worked with the public for far too long to let one random opinion or another rankle me, and I’m a writer, so I have plenty of constructive outlets for many … Read more

midnighter and dick grayson

DC Entertainment is serving up some superhero-sized man candy in the latest issue of Midnighter, which centers around the openly gay comic book character of the same name. While in Moscow, the two end up in a steam room and well…we aren’t complaining about the visuals. See the Full Story at Towleroad.com
