The holidays are a time for warmth and joy, for food and laughter – except when they go horribly wrong. Baking disasters. Shopping trips from heck. Getting lost on the way to Grandma’s space station. Accidentally summoning demons with improperly laid Yule fires. All the usual holiday catastrophes.
Whether the disasters are the meet-cute, the inciting incident, a series of escalating calamities, or the final cataclysmic dramatic climax, Mischief Corner is looking for low angst stories with solid characters dealing as best they can with their personal holiday nightmares and stumbling into love in the process.
Deadline for submissions: End of day June 30th, 2019
Publication of stories will occur November 2019.
Story lengths that will be considered are:
Novelette: 15K – 20K
Novella: 20K – 39K
Novel: 40K – 65K
Stories that are off the beaten-track, diverse characters, and are a positive representation of queer culture will be prioritized. We want a well constructed story with a solid plot. It must be a holiday focused story (ones less common are given extra consideration) with a HFN or HEA ending. All pairings/poly groups from the SGM spectrum will be considered. All genres welcomed, but no erotica please.
No simultaneous submissions, please, or submissions of stories currently carried or soon to be released with other publishers. This also includes previously published stories; only new stories will be considered. In addition, please do not send in multiple stories at once. Give us a chance to read your submission then send in your next one once we’ve gotten back to you.
Submissions will be royalty paying contracts with their own individual covers. Stories above the novel word limit must be exceptional for us to consider them.
