QSFer L.M. Brown has a new MM Sci Fi/shifter/mpreg book out: “Space Fox.”
Protecting his shifter from threats is easy, but can he protect him from his own ambition?
As part of the G-Force Federation, gargoyle Jude is a newly promoted pilot eager to prove himself on his first solo assignment. Unfortunately, his plans go awry when his craft is shot down, leaving him stranded in the desert.
Kirby is a fennec fox shifter on the desert world of Cairo. When Jude’s ship comes under attack he races to help him, and after the crash he offers to guide him back to the base.
Their journey across the harsh desert is fraught with dangers, one of which is the lure of Kirby’s scent as he goes into heat for the first time. Jude’s protective attitude towards him pushes all the right buttons with Kirby, and it doesn’t take much for him to persuade the gargoyle to be his first lover.
When Kirby discovers he is pregnant they know one of them will have to make a sacrifice if they want to raise their baby together, but can either of them give up everything they have ever known?

Excerpt
Kirby sat up and swung his legs off the edge of the bed, leaving his back to Jude. “When I decided to leave my den I was scared. I’ve never been away from my home and my family for more than a few days, and even when I left the den, one or more of them had always been with me. Only my need to find a mate was enough for me to make the decision to leave.”
“And now you’ve found your mate,” Jude said as he rose and planted a soft kiss at the nape of Kirby’s neck.
“Yes, but at what price?” Kirby whispered. “I don’t know if I can pay it, not if it means leaving my whole world behind.”
“Not even for me?” Jude asked. He turned Kirby’s head to face him.
“I don’t know,” Kirby replied. “I can’t make that decision yet.”
“Okay, don’t worry. You don’t have to choose right away. I’m going to be on this world a while yet.”
“You are?”
Jude nodded. “Yes. I’ve gathered together some of the equipment I need to repair my ship, but this base doesn’t have everything I need. So I’m here until a ship can be spared to come down with the rest of what I need. How about we spend that time getting to know each other properly? I can answer your questions about Earth and you can decide whether you want to come with me when I leave.”
Kirby shot him a glare and Jude recoiled. “What did I say?”
“You want me to decide whether I leave with you or not, but aren’t you even going to consider the possibility of staying here with me?”
“I…”
Kirby growled and shook his head. “Of course you aren’t. You have a life and a purpose that you don’t want to give up. Never mind about my life, my dreams.”
“Kirby, it’s not like that. But I can’t just leave the G-Force. I have to see this mission through to the end.”
“I understand that, but have you even thought about returning here afterwards, of making a life here on Cairo?”
“What would I do here?” Jude asked. “This world is nothing but sand.”
“And what would I do on Earth?” Kirby retorted.
“You’d be raising our children.”
“I can raise our kits just as well here on Cairo, even better if they’re shifters like me. If you’re going to spend your life flying all over the universe with the G-Force, leaving me to raise our kits alone, then at least let me stay with the rest of my family, on my own world.”
Jude didn’t have an argument for that. Kirby was right. If their life as mates involved lengthy separations, it was only fair for Kirby to stay here on the planet he clearly loved. The problem was, Jude didn’t want them to spend their lives apart.
