Excerpt

Zander spent most of the day in the bed studying the spells from his family’s Grimoire stored on his smartphone and reading the four Banning Cabiness books his family had given him. By the time he had practiced most of the more basic spells at least two or three times and read two of the four books, he realized that he was starting to miss his mate, Tau. He threw down the Banning Cabiness book, jumped up from the bed, quickly showered, and changed into a pair of jeans, a black-and-gold shirt, and black boots.

He declined all of his family’s offers for food and drink, endured the lengthy good-byes, and then slid through the shadows into the living room of the Long estate — his new home, which he found to be unusually quiet given the fact that it required a full staff to run.

Zander noticed a picture of Tau’s father on the mantle and considered the fact that pack law required Tau’s parents to go on a sabbatical in order to give Tau room to assume the mantle of leadership without the undue pressure of his father’s scrutiny. This newer custom was a far cry better than the old days when the new king was forced to execute his predecessor, even if it did happen to be his own father.

Zander was about to find his way up to the bedroom he shared with Tau when he was startled.

“How did you get here?” Bronx shuffled a large paper bag from one arm to the other.

“Why do you want to know?” Zander asked.

“Because Tau asked me to come get you, and you’re back here already,” Bronx said, sounding extremely irritated. Zander had no intention of telling Bronx or anyone else that he was part vampire and able to shadow walk.

“Well, you don’t have to worry about coming to get me now,” Zander responded.

“So how did you get here?” Bronx asked again.

“Do you have a problem with me?”

“I don’t know. I am still trying to figure that out.”

“You don’t even know me.”

“You are right. I don’t know you, and all of a sudden my best friend is madly in love with you. I’ve known him all of his life. I know him better than he knows himself sometimes, yet I had no idea that he was head over heels in love. It just seems a little suspect, and I can’t imagine why he would have kept something like this away from me unless he was ashamed or unsure. It is like you came from out of nowhere,” Bronx said.

“I didn’t come from out of nowhere, and I love Tau too,” Zander said.
“Why wouldn’t you love Tau? He is rich and powerful. What’s not to love?” Bronx asked.

“I don’t want Tau’s money. I didn’t even know he was going to be in the pack trials when we met.”

“Sure you didn’t. I don’t judge Tau for being gay. I don’t always go with him when he goes out to gay clubs, but I am sorry I wasn’t there the night he met you. I normally make sure that gold diggers aren’t fanning their hot little asses in his face. You slipped by me once, but I am watching you now,” Bronx said, looking as though he was about to shift.

Author Bio

Shadrach Octavio Walker, a.k.a. Shad O.Walker, has always been an avid fan of all things science fiction, fantasy and paranormal. It wasn’t until he realized that there were no significant paranormal series featuring GBLT characters of color that he decided to create One Warlock’s Love Story. This epic tale features main character Zander Borealis Knight and spans several installments with villainous vampires, sexy shape shifters, wild warlocks, fierce fairies, great sex, and the kind of drama only found in the very best urban literature.

Armed with his passion for literature and his grandmother’s dictionary, Shad remains as elusive as the vampires in his series’ House of Aleph with writing as powerful as the shifters in its Alpha pack. Supported by a coven of loyal readers, Shad is sure to take the literary world by storm.

Inspired by the creativity of Octavia Butler, storytelling of James Baldwin, and passion of E. Lynn Harris, Shad is at the forefront of an entirely new expression of paranormal romance and fantasy. What started out as a desire to create and share a new kind of tale turned into a dream come true with the release of the first installment of the series through Torquere Press. Today, Shad enjoys “shadowalking” into the hearts and minds of his beloved readers, the OWLS.
