Announcement: Awakening, by Baltimore Russell & Jennifer Pallanich

AwakeningQSFer Baltimore Russell and Jennifer Pallanich have a new queer superhero book out:

Disasters ring the planet as the earth cries out for heroes to save it. At the same time, an ancient order conspires to fulfill a centuries-old prophecy. Their plan: unleash a deadly tsunami that would destroy North American and European coastlines. Then, at the height of summer, a blinding white light races across the globe, granting a select few incredible gifts. An enigmatic ex-Green Beret trains these powerful misfits in a desperate bid to stop the man-made and natural catastrophes. But can these Children of the Solstice work well enough together and master their new powers in time to halt the prophecy and save humanity from cataclysmic devastation?

Children of the Solstice Book One

Forget sibling rivalry. A shared trip to the Roof of Africa fueled the ambition of a brother and sister from small-town Texas to join forces to create a superhero story. Awakening, book one of the Children of the Solstice trilogy by co-writers Baltimore Russell and Jennifer Pallanich, features a group of misfits who band together and use their new super powers to fight an ancient order hell-bent on fulfilling a deadly prophecy.

Baltimore is co-creator and co-writer of the ISA-nominated new media series People you Know. Jennifer Pallanich is a trade journalist writing about the oil & gas industry and is the author of Flacks & Hacks: Trade Secrets Journalists Want PR Pros to Know.

“Who else climbs Mount Kilimanjaro and immediately turns to another big goal? We figured if we could spend all that time hiking up and down the mountain without growing aggravated with one another, we could probably get along well enough to co-write a book. It turns out that collaborating was not just good for the book, it was good for our us as siblings as well,” Jennifer said.

“We wanted to write a classic good versus evil story with our own spin. We wanted as many cliffhangers as possible to keep our readers turning pages. We took inspiration from some extreme weather events and brainstormed the basics of the book, from characters to storyline. Through all the twists and turns involved in the writing process, I’m glad neither one of us went supervillain on the other. Collaborating is worthwhile, but sometimes it’s hard to do,” Baltimore said.
