Hi all,
We have some big news today. We’re launching the third annual flash fiction contest on QueerSciFi.com. Last year’s contest was a great success, with 115 entries across the LGBTIQA and speculative fiction spectrums.
This year promises to be even better.
Like last year, we are partnering with Mischief Corner Books to create an eBook with all the entries that we will then sell on Amazon, ARe, etc, on the site and at cons to help fund the growth of the Queer Sci Fi empire. :)
There will be cash prizes for the top three entries, along with a copy of the eBook for everyone who is accepted for publication in the anthology. We’ve selected a panel of six judges – myself, Angel Martinez, Ben Brock, Aidee Ladnier, Carole Cummings, and Jenn Burke (the last three are last year’s winners).
The theme last year was “discovery”. The theme this year is equally broad: “flight”. Take that however you will – people who fly, space flight, in flight from something. It’s up to you. We’ll be accepting stories from across the LGBTIQ spectrum, and would love to see more entries including lesbian, trans, bi, and intersex protagonists, as well as gay men. The stories can also fall anywhere across the spectrum romance-wise – romance is fine, but stories can also be genre driven with no romance at all. But they must include at least one clearly LGBTIQA character.
Note: There is a template to use for the proper formatting. We should have it posted online soon but if you want a copy now, just message J. Scott Coatsworth on Facebook and I’ll post it.
As we mentioned, we really want to see entries that cover the whole LQBTIQA/QUILTBAG spectrum, so be creative. If you have any questions about this contest, you can email me at scott@queerscifi.com, or hit me up on facebook at https://www.facebook.com/jscottcoatsworth.
We’re excited to see what you come up with. So break out your writing pencil or laptop or whatever you use, and get ready to write.
–-Scott, Angel, Ben, Aidee, Carole, and Jenn
