Guest Post: Grace R. Duncan, Author of Devotion

DevotionQSFer Grace R. Duncan stops by the QSF blog today to hang out and discuss her new paranormal book, Devotion.

Thank you so much to Scott and the rest of Queer Sci-Fi for letting me stop by today! I’ve given this part of the interview a bit more of a paranormal bent. Hope you enjoy!

Are either of you particularly religious?

Finley nods. I think we both have a solid faith.

Can you tell me a little about it?

Tanner: We follow—for the most part—the Roman pantheon. Our patron goddess—and the one who created us—is Diana, goddess of the hunt. We have a few of the gods that we are more focused on—Mars, Neptune, Jupiter–

Finley chuckles. You sound like you’re reciting the solar system.

Tanner laughs too. Yeah, well, that’s where the names came from. Anyway, Diana, Mars, and Neptune are directly responsible for the creation of our species. Jupiter, Mercury, Bacchus, and are a few others we follow closely. They all represent aspects of our lives—and those of our wolves—that are important to us.

What is your favorite part of being a shifter?

Tanner grins. The metabolism. Finley laughs. I mean, come on! I can eat pretty much anything I want and our metabolism is so high—we burn so much energy by shifting—that we burn pretty much everything we take it. It’s why we tend to eat a lot.

Finley shakes his head. For me, it’s the ability to see things from a different perspective. The forest as a human and the forest as a wolf are two very different places. The sounds, smells, all of it is just so different for each side of us.

Which do you like more, then? Wolf or Human?

Finley sighs. Oh geez. I… I don’t know. I mean… they both have their advantages. There are definitely things I like about being human—like opposable thumbs. But I often feel freer as my wolf. There’s less to think about, less to worry about. Things like grades and bills don’t matter there.

Tanner nods. That’s it for me too. It’s simpler. I like that I can focus on very basic things—and only very basic things—and not have to think about all the complicated human worries. They’ll all still be there, of course, but it gives me a chance to truly clear my mind and come back and approach it from a different angle. So… it’s not that there’s one I like better so much as aspects of each I like best.

Finley nods. That’s it, exactly.

Thank you so much to Queer Sci-fi for having me over today! For a chance to win an ebook of any of my previously published titles, tell me what your favorite aspect of shifter stories is. What do you like the most about them?

Grace R. DuncanGrace Duncan grew up with a wild imagination. She told stories from an early age – many of which got her into trouble. Eventually, she learned to channel that imagination into less troublesome areas, including fanfiction, which is what has led her to writing male/male erotica.

A gypsy in her own right, Grace has lived all over the United States. She has currently set up camp in East Texas with her husband and children – both the human and furry kind.

As one of those rare creatures who loves research, Grace can get lost for hours on the internet, reading up on any number of strange and different topics. She can also be found writing fanfiction, reading fantasy, crime, suspense, romance and other erotica or even dabbling in art.
