QSFer C.J. Dragon has a new MM sci-fi romance out: Envoy.
Rescuing his best friend, Ben, and seven hundred other humans was a straightforward task compared to what the Guardian Sebastien had been ordering him to do.
Several terrible assignments in a row have tipped the ambassador into trauma, affecting not just him, but also his prince. Calling into question whether he can continue to work for the Guardian who seems to want him dead.
Knowing he has no choice if his parents are to be kept safe, River continues to do as he’s told, despite a break in his friendship with Ben and his own doubts about being able to be a consort to his Prince.
Can River navigate Sebastien’s orders and remain alive?
Will Prince Eris still love him if he is no longer his consort?

It took fifteen minutes to walk to the beach, the fine sand a light beige and smooth. River stood just above the water line, staring out to sea for several moments. He breathed deeply, taking in the slight, briny scent. Eris, standing behind him, remained as silent as River, enjoying the quiet, thinking his own thoughts, dreaming his own dreams.
At last, River turned to face his lover, his expression more relaxed than it had been for weeks.
“Let’s go save some humans, my Prince.”
The flight back to Rhuson seemed quicker, as it always does when one knows the way. River broke into the food, enjoying a grain and vegetable dish that was best-served cold. It paired well with his usual juice, and he sighed as he finished, feeling better after walking all over the new human township.
After offering food to the guards, who declined due to being on duty, the ambassador went to the flight deck to see if his Prince needed something to eat or drink. Slipping into the vacant co-pilot seat, River stared out the narrow window at the view, before turning to Eris.
“Would you like something to eat or drink, my Prince? I mean, besides me?”
Eris shot him a sidelong glance, his lips curling with amusement. “Do not tempt me while I pilot this ship, my sarain, as I always want you.” He checked the instruments, making a slight correction to their trajectory. “I will have a glass of juice and some dried fruit. I refreshed myself with a cube of blood before we left Rhuson, so will not need blood for a day or more. Not that I would let that stop me from sampling you.”
River flushed, then smiled. “I can stay with you tonight if you like. We haven’t been able to spend as much time together because of this project, but now it’s done except for the rescue. Does that work for your schedule?”
Eris nodded briskly. “Of course, you may stay with me. I have missed you, too. When we arrive at the palace, you must message your Guardian since we leave the day after tomorrow. If you can get a count of how many humans will be coming with us, it would help. Our larger shuttles hold fifty to one hundred Draas with room for cargo. I prefer to make as few trips to the main ship as possible. I am sure you feel the same. Will you go planet-side?”
“I was planning on that. I’ll ask about the number and the cargo to be on the safe side. I’d like to go down with you, assuming you plan to leave the ship. Otherwise, I’ll go with the guard, I want my people to see a friendly face after seeing only Sebastien, who’s anything but.”
Eris glanced over at him again, his expression solemn. “If you leave the ship, then I will. It is best if your people see me and know who I am as soon as possible. Do you expect Sebastien to be there?’
River shook his head thoughtfully. “I don’t know. Guardians don’t tend to move around much, but knowing him, he’d do it just to twist his metaphorical knife in me one more time. He doesn’t know I’d expect that from him, so he’s liable to do it. Gods know I don’t want to see him again.” River sighed, then stood up. “I’ll get your snack and leave you to pilot. Thank you again for doing this. I’ll never be able to repay you or Drakonis for everything that’s been done to help my people.”
Eris grinned, causing River to smile back. “I have some ideas on repayment, my love. It will take a very long time, but we have that, don’t we?”
His human shook his head slowly. “You are incorrigible. My heartfelt thanks aren’t enough for you?”
“Oh, they are, but I can never get enough of you, my sarain, and doubt I ever will.”
