About The Book

David is addicted to Bells, and a gunwhore is a hard addiction to break.

Addictions have their drawbacks, and David Jessman would be the first person to admit he’s addicted to the passions he’s only felt in the arms of one man: Bells, the LC Zone gunwhore and deadly zonewarrior. Having gotten so wrapped up in his personal life that he forgets to do anything but daydream about a certain blond gunwhore David Jessman finds himself in serious trouble with his boss. Trouble that Bells promises to make right–somehow.

Trigger warnings: Strong BDSM content (series), violence, blood, dark romance, age gap

Author’s Note: The series must be read in order as the books comprise a single story.

The Review

As David sleeps at Bell’s side, Bell is on the antiquated statphone with his broker, Katrina, yelling in his ear. Luckily, he’s holding his temper until he can find a place in her rant to respond. He failed to complete the ML kill job, and now they’re trying to get his whereabouts from her. The corporation is ready to send the thugs out again.

Bell is the most expensive gunwhore Katrina ownes. He’s also the classiest, high priced, most dangerous, and gun toting, at the cost of twenty-five thousand for a single night. David only paid for one night, but now that one has turned into two, and no one is paying.

Bell explains to Katrina how Stone had come to kill David, but didn’t succeed in his mission.  He tells her to put the word out in the LC freezone – anyone who comes for his money, boys, playmates or clients will face the consequences.

David knows he owes Bells, and wants to compensate him for staying, and to find a way to pay him for the twenty thousand he lost in the kill job for ML. He even thinks about buying out his contract with his broker. But what would the repercussions be? And could a zoner and corp ever really have a future together?

David’s own future is in doubt, as ML still has a kill contract out on him. Now, he has to face NeuroTech – because of his failure at work, he could be dehired. What can Bells do to help?

Barnette’s fourth book in the Through Neon Eyes series is another fascinating, dark tale that keeps piling on the danger. Both David and Bell have questions about each other. Bells’ wall has been chipped away at, but both men are still leery of the word love in their dystopian steam punk world, where corporations rule and cybernetic enhancements are the norm.

You should read the books in order, as they tell a complete story. The entire series is a page-turner, and with every tale, the thrills become more intense. I can’t wait for book five.

The Reviewer

Hi, I’m Maryann, I started life in New York, moved to New Hampshire and in 1965 uprooted again to Sacramento, California. Once I retired I moved to West Palm Beach, Florida in 2011 and just moved back to Sacramento in March of 2018. My son, his wife and step-daughter flew out to Florida and we road tripped back so they got to see sights they have never seen. New Orleans and the Grand Canyon were the highlights. Now I am back on the west coast again to stay! From a young age Ialways liked to read.

I remember going to the library and reading the “Doctor Dolittle” books by Hugh Lofting. Much later on became a big fan of the classics, Edgar Alan Poe, Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker and as time went by Agatha Christie, Ray Bradbury and Stephen Kingand many other authors.

My first M/M shifter book I read was written by Jan Irving the “Uncommon Cowboys” series from 2012. She was the first author I ever contacted and sent an email to letting her know how much I liked this series. Sometime along the way I read “Zero to the Bone”by Jane Seville, I think just about everyone has read this book!

As it stands right now I’m really into mysteries, grit, gore and “triggers” don’t bother me. But if a blurb piques my interest I will read the book.

My kindle collection eclectic and over three thousand books and my Audible collection is slowly growing. I have both the kindle and audible apps on my ipod, ipads, and MAC. So there is never an excuse not to be listening or reading.

I joined Goodreads around 2012 and started posting reviews. One day a wonderful lady, Lisa Horan of The Novel Approach, sent me an email to see if I wanted to join her review group. Joining her site was such an eye opener. I got introduce to so many new authors that write for the LGBTQ genre. Needless to say, it was heart breaking when it ended.

But I found a really great site, QRI and it’s right here in Sacramento. Last year at QSAC I actually got to meet Scott Coatsworth, Amy Lane and Jeff Adams.
