FOR READERS & WRITERS
Today’s writer topic comes from QSFer Jim Comer:
A lot of classic fiction includes elements that we now consider outdated, offensive or unacceptable. How do we deal with humor from our shared past in these works which centers on things such as kink shaming and trans/homophobia? Do those issues (and others) invalidate the work itself, or can they be separated out because of the period in which the work was written?
This is a hot-button topic, so please treat everyone in this conversation with respect.
Writers: This is a reader and writer chat – you are welcome to share your own book/link, as long as it fits the chat, but please do so as part of a discussion about the topic.
