About The Book
Five Stars
When evil stirs in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains, heroes come in both ordinary and extraordinary packages.
Ignatius Faber knows a few things for absolute certain. He’s half-demon, his father is the unequivocal prince of darkness, and demons want to destroy his city. And if he doesn’t make the first move on his crush, they’re never going to be anything more than a teenage fantasy that’s lasted into his thirties.
Lalo Pavia grew up hard and fast, orphaned at a young age. As an autistic, he’s learned to approach life cautiously. He throws his energy into gardening and photography—allowing both to provide a buffer between himself and the rest of the world.
Except for Iggy.
Can they find triumph, life, and even love in the middle of a city in flames?
Their fight for the mile high city has just begun.
The Review
Ignatius (Iggy) Faber is half human and half demon but not just any demon since his father is Lucifer himself. Iggy was taken in by the Jesuits in Denver and trained to be a demon hunter, his mother died in childbirth and needless to say his father is nowhere around. Iggy had hundreds of half siblings but he and his half brother Titus are all that remain until one night when a demon killed Titus leaving Iggy the only survivor.
Lalo Pavia has been friends with Iggy since he was eight years old and being autistic and a foster child Iggy was the only one he trusted. Their friendship has been strong for thirty years but ten years ago Iggy realized that his feelings for Lalo were much stronger than that of friendship. Both Lalo and Iggy are gay and Iggy has learned to know what Lalo needs when things begin to overwhelm him.
It was believed that Lucifer was locked away somewhere in Hell by the demons but when Lucifer appears that rumor appears to be untrue. The demons pose a serious threat to the people in Denver and Iggy is determined to stop them and his father. The demons want to put an end to Iggy and Lucifer and Iggy wants to put an end to Lucifer and the demons but how can one person do it all.
It is Lalo who sees a younger version of Titus whose body was never recovered after he was killed, now another mystery, who is this look-alike and whose side is he on. It doesn’t take long before the demons are well aware of Lalo’s importance to Iggy putting a target on his back but Lalo inspite of his limitations keeps reminding everyone that he is “not a coward”. He loves Iggy and tries very hard to help him in any way he can. His “not a coward” mantra is proven when he uses his drone to take a bite out of Lucifer’s neck for DNA leaving Daddy Lucy as Lalo refers to him a very unhappy demon.
The search for answers as to why the demons have settled in Denver and where they come from involves Iggy, Lalo and some of their scientific friends and the Jesuit journals and many of the questions they have are answered. The book answers all the questions as far as I was concerned and I loved the relationship between Iggy and Lalo. I have to admit that as characters go I absolutely loved Lalo, his innocence and misunderstanding of simple things just made him endearing for example when Iggy refers to Lalo as appearing catatonic Lalo’s reply is “do cats drink tonic”.
The book moved swiftly and not once did I find myself bored.

I am an avid reader the mother of 3 sons and grandmother to seven grandchildren. Since retiring I have been doing more reading while volunteering as a CASA worker. CASA is an organization that works with the family court system to ensure that children are in the best living situation. There are way too many children that get overlooked in the foster care system and I visit homes and make visits to the parents. I was born and raised in New York and my husband of 50 years and I live in Upstate New York.
