Excerpt
The reception was in full swing with the bride and groom the center of attention, as it should be. His mother and father watched from the sidelines while Russ swept Maggie around the dance floor for their first dance as a married couple. Then they stepped in, Stefan taking Maggie in his arms while Russ danced with Regina. Whatever Stefan said to Maggie at one point had her blushing brightly before she broke into gales of laughter.
Her laughter was infectious, and Joel grinned in response from where he stood at the edge of the room. Soon almost everyone was out on the floor dancing. Those that weren’t were at the buffet table where there was a lavish spread of food and drink to tempt any palate. He watched in amusement as several people walked around with Bloody Marys in their hands—the token vampire drink of choice to fit in with the theme of the evening.
“Not joining in the festivities?” a deep voice inquired from beside Joel.
“I’m much more of an observer than a participator,” Joel replied without a glance to see who had asked the question.
“Pity. An angel such as you should be sharing the spotlight with the bride and groom, although if you did, you would outshine them both, I fear.”
Joel turned then to look at the speaker. Deep amber eyes met his as sensuous lips curled up in an amused grin. “I thought that might get your attention. I was not lying however. You truly are quite angelic.” The man touched Joel’s hair for a second. “All golden, with the most wonderful blue eyes. You put the rest of your family to shame. I could only wish…” He paused, and then without another word, he turned on his heel and walked swiftly to the exit.
Joel watched him leave, shock written on his face. Then he hurried to follow. When he got to the door and stepped outside, there was no one in sight. “Impossible,” he muttered as he searched the darkness of the grassy lawn behind the reception hall. But no matter how hard he tried to find the man, he was nowhere to be seen.
He returned inside and immediately ran into his mother. He knew his face showed what he felt when she asked in a worried tone, “What’s wrong?”
“The strangest thing just happened. There was this man who started to talk to me and then…” Joel snapped his fingers. “He turned around and left.”
“What did he say?”
“That I was an angel.”
Regina smiled as she wrapped her arm around his waist and drew him back toward the rest of their family. “You are an angel, our angel. Perhaps this man realized that he had spoken out of turn and became embarrassed.”
“Yeah, I’m sure you’re right, but it was definitely strange.”

Author Bio
Born and bred Cleveland, I earned a degree in technical theater, later switched to costuming, and headed to NYC. Finally seeing the futility of trying to become rich and famous in the Big Apple, I joined VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America), ending up in Chicago for three years. Then it was on to Denver where I put down roots and worked as a costume designer until just recently.
I began writing a few years ago after joining an on-line fanfic group. Two friends and I then started a group for writers where they may post any story they wish no matter the genre or content. Since then, for the last three years, I’ve been writing for publication. Most, but not all, of my work is m/m, either mildly erotic or purely ‘romantic’, and more often than not it involves a mystery or action/adventure.
