ANNOUNCEMENT: Blessing and Light, by Kasia Bacon – FREE!

Blessing and Light

QSFer Kasia Bacon has a new MM Fantasy/Historical book out:

It’s the Night of Winter Lights.

Heedless of the holiday, the Commander of the H’Aren fortress, Captain Torýn Torhdhar, seems to find his satisfaction in work.

Such occurrence hardly surprises his Orderly, Sæbastyn Hyago, even though the young Lieutenant has spent a silent, aching decade wishing his superior officer would pursue pleasure elsewhere—specifically in his arms. But as the evening continues, nothing about it meets Sæbastyn’s expectations. Will the Lieutenant see his secret desires realised, or his heart shattered?

This alternative winter holiday short, set in the Order Universe, will be available FREE in December as a part of the 2017 Rainbow Advent Calendar.

Excerpt

The fire in the wood burner had died out, and the candles remained unlit. An oil lamp, situated on the side of the hefty palisander bureau, fought the gloom with its solitary gleam. Behind the desk, bent over what I knew to be a pile of endless orders, reports, inventory lists and complaints against military requisition, sat the Commander of the H’Aren Fortress.

Captain Torýn Torhdhar.

The man who once saved me from under the whipping post. The man who took me in, an illiterate peasant boy, my back scarred and spirit broken. The man who made a soldier out of me and gave me the only family I’d ever known—the army.

The man I had secretly loved for ten years.

My heart fluttered at the sight of his head and wide shoulders as he hunched over a letter. His quill traced bold, even lines, scratching away on the parchment. Absorbed in his task, brow scrunched up in concentration and the fingers of his left hand woven in the dark waves of his hair, the Captain paid me no mind. So, leaning against the doorframe, I grabbed the shameless opportunity to admire the slant of his cheekbones and the hard edges of his jawline, accentuated by the light and shadows of the room.

Tiikėri, the Captain’s cat, occupied his usual place on the left of the desk. He offered me a feeble meow, proving to be the only one interested in my presence. Or, possibly, the treats he associated it with. Fresh streaks of blue ran through his stunning cinnamon coat, bearing testimony to another joust he’d had with the inkwell.

A lover of MMA and Muay Thai, she also enjoys nature and the great outdoors. She dreams of becoming independently wealthy, leaving the city and moving into her wooden mini-manor—located in the heart of stunning forests resembling those of the Elven Country depicted in her tales.
