TV: Once Upon a Time to Get Gay Character

Once Upon a Time

At San Diego Comic-Con, which concluded Sunday, the showrunners of US series Once Upon a Time revealed the show will feature a new LGBTI character. But fans are hoping it will be better than the misguided attempt of season 5.

While bosses Adam Horowitz and Eddie Kitsis are staying quiet, there is a slew of new characters joining the show. The show recently lost six cast members at the end of the most recent season. The new season will instead focus on an adult Henry (Andrew J. West, previously played by Jared Gilmore) and fan-favorites Regina (Lana Parrilla), Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle), and Hook (Colin O’Donoghue).

Several new cast members are joining them. Alison Fernandez is playing Henry’s daughter Lucy, while Dania Ramirez will be Cinderella (and Henry’s wife). Joining Ramirez is Gabrielle Anwar as Cinderella’s evil stepmother Lady Tremanie and Adelaide Kane as Cinderella’s stepsister Drizella. Mekia Cox will also appear as Tiana, while Rose Reynolds will play Alice from Alice in Wonderland.

‘This iteration is reflecting the world today,’ Kitsis told Entertainment Weekly. ‘It will not be anything more than just one of other love stories that are happening. I don’t think it’s an arc, it’ll be a character who is gay and that’s who they are and they exist in the world. They don’t have a sign that says special episode.’
