John Barrowman has used a Q&A session at the San Diego Comic Con to defend BBC producers casting a female Doctor Who. Speaking about the casting he said:

‘When we did the first regeneration, from Christopher Eccleston to David Tennant. People weren’t happy.’ Arguing, the fans got over the age gap between those two and in the same way, they’ll get over the casting of Jodie Whittaker too. He said the lore of Doctor Who ‘doesn’t say the doctor is a he, or will be “a he”

Admitting he was getting really geeky here he said it was possible for the doctor to be a woman: ‘It could conceivably happen if we believe it as that world. ‘This is my point today. We all get on that TARDIS,  with the doctor, for the journey and the experience’
