FILM: Wonder Woman Has Biggest Opening Ever for Female Dirtector

Director Patty Jenkins’ “Wonder Woman” smashed the box office pulling in $103 million domestically for its opening weekend. This makes the superheroine film the biggest opening in history for a female director.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is the 15th superhero movie to break $100 million domestically. The top superhero films are dominated by Marvel. “The Avengers” is number one with a domestic opening of $207.4 million in 2012. “Avengers: Age of Ultron” comes in second with $191.3 million in 2015 and 2016’s “Captain America: Civil War” is third with $179.1 million.

“Wonder Woman” is also the first female superhero to have a successful opening following the box office failures of “Catwoman” and “Elektra” in the 2000s.
