QSFer Tam Ames has a new sci fi novel out:
The year 2089 finds Australia split between east and west, with a wall to ensure the east stays safe. College student Aiden Taylor is traveling from Perth to Sydney to see Men at Work, who have been revived after cryogenic freezing. Regrettably, only days into his trip, his moped is stolen—and then he meets a naked man from the east. The man turns out to be Matthew King, who offers Aiden a ride—no strings attached—all the way to Sydney.
When another attack occurs the following night, Aiden discovers Matthew’s impossible secret: he’s a were-kanga. At least that gives them something to talk about when they experience delays at the wall. One thing leads to another, and soon friends with benefits turns into something more. But when the summer is over, Aiden must return to school in Perth. How can he leave Matthew behind?
Excerpt
He could tell Matthew wasn’t sleeping either. He was just lying there. Aiden tried not to fidget. He tried not to toss and turn, but it wasn’t going well. He just couldn’t get comfortable while sporting wood. He supposed he could make an emergency bathroom trip and jerk off, but that would be pretty obvious considering he’d just been to the bathroom. Shit. Maybe if he thought about his grandma or platypuses. They weren’t sexy. Was the word platypi? What the hell was the plural of those things? As he thought, Aiden rolled over and found himself facing Matthew, who was looking at him with those amazing brown eyes.
“What are you thinking about?” asked Matthew, barely above a whisper.
Aiden just looked at him and finally blurted out “Platypuses.” Fuck!
Matthew remained still. Aiden’s erection, which had subsided with the age-old question of the plural of platypus, suddenly reared its head again. Matthew’s gaze dropped until it fastened on Aiden’s mouth. Aiden was suddenly so dry, he felt like he’d been in the desert for years. He licked his lips to get some moisture, and that may or may not have been a good thing. Matthew groaned and moved a little closer. Aiden just blinked.
The man raised his hand and wove his fingers through Aiden’s curls. “You don’t have to, you know,” he whispered as he moved closer.
Aiden continued to stare. He couldn’t believe this was happening. Guys like Matthew were attracted to guys like themselves. Not short, skinny guys with no muscles. Matthew stopped just millimeters from Aiden’s mouth. “Do you want me to stop?” Aiden could feel Matthew’s breath against his lips.
“God no!”
