FOR READERS: Queer Communities in Sci Fi

FOR READERS Today’s writer topic comes from QSFer Brian Cherry: For readers (and writers) what books have explored an LGBT community in a sci fi or fantasy setting? This isn’t something I can recall seeing. Queers in sci fi/fantasy seem to be either fully integrated or persecuted loners. Just getting queer characters is sometimes enough but I’d love to see how we’d be as a community with gay elves, aliens or whatnot. Star Wars Finn Poe

The head of Lucasfilm has hinted of a gay love story between Finn and Poe in future Star Wars films. President Kathleen Kennedy will not confirm anything, but has said a romance between the pilot and stormtrooper is definitely a possibility. This would be the first ever gay subplot in the franchise that is now in its 40th year.
