Justin Trudeau, Superhero

Justin Trudeau can save us any day. The Canadian Prime Minister will be gracing the cover of Marvel’s upcoming Civil War II: Choosing Sides, issue #5, coming on August 31st. Oddly enough, he looks even better in ink form than in real life. A Marvel spokesperson told Mashable that Trudeau would also be a minor character in the issue — though he probably won’t be blowing up any buildings. Canadians don’t do that. Here’s the plot: “Alpha Flight, once Canada’s premiere Super Hero team, now working globally for Captain Marvel, seek the advice of their old boss—Canadian Prime Minister Justin … Read more

Does Game of Thrones Have a Gay Problem?

After the heartbreaking events of recent weeks, there was little that could draw crowds away from the Gay Pride festivities in New York on Sunday afternoon. But there was something even more powerful than rainbow flags and Jell-O shots: Game of Thrones. Plenty of people, myself included, rushed home from the sea of men in chaps to watch Cersei Lannister put on a S&M outfit of her own to seize the crown. You better work, queen! And so, when Loras Tyrell died within the first 15 minutes of the show, it was a huge disappointment for gay fans. Not only … Read more

Dispatches from Hogwarts G.S.A.: Hello QSFers!

When Scott posted an open invitation to write a column for QSF, I thought: “Cool opportunity!” Then I thought, “What the hell am I going to call it?” That question followed me around for a while like a storm cloud, sending me hiding for cover, too filled with angst to even try to tackle a response. I mean, A: I’m an author, so whatever I called this column had to be clever and good. And B: QSF is a site for sci fi and fantasy fans and writers, so the expectation for cleverness is especially high. Then, C: Whatever I … Read more
