Discussion: The Don’ts of Worldbuilding

Today’s topic comes from QSFer EJ Runyon: I’d like folks to discuss the “Don’ts” in World Building they’ve figured out by experience. What isn’t needed, or doesn’t help in building a Fantasy and Paranormal world for your readers? It’s a great topic. We just spent a week talking about all the things you can and should do when building a world for one of your stories. But what are the things you shouldn’t do because they are extraneous or they might actually harm your story? Join the discussion

Electroloom Fabric Printer Spins New World of Possibilities

Imagine being able to print your own seamless clothing. Electroloom is the world’s first 3D printer capable of creating true fabric, and its creators are looking for their first alpha testers. According to its page on Kickstarter, the Electroloom Developer Kit “is a tool for designing and manufacturing” custom-made, ready-to-wear clothing. Traditionally, textile manufacturing requires first sending raw material through multiple processing steps just to create the fabric, but the Electroloom reduces clothing creation into a single step: “When interacting with our machine, there is no need for thread, needles, or sewing. Instead, our users need only some simple CAD … Read more

We’re learning more about human genetics and sexuality each year. Soon we’ll be able to make babies form the DNA of a gay couple together, and maybe someday soon we’ll be able to predict a child’s sexual orientation. What if science advanced to a point where it would be possible to change sexual orientations? Where you could flip a switch and go from being gay to straight, or bi, or…? What if you could fully change your gender (internal and external)? Would you do it? For a day or a week or a lifetime? And how would true orientation and … Read more

Angel’s Bits – From Famine to Feast

A few years ago, when I was starting out in this genre, finding safe convention space for LGBTQ+ fiction was difficult. Sure, there were cons who said we could play, there were even some who welcomed us, but it still had that feeling of being the odd man out, the oh, and also those part of the weekend. Now we’re trying to decide which conventions to attend next year, and we’re finding we have to choose, that we can no longer attend all the LGBTQ specific events out there. The last convention I’ll be attending this year was one we … Read more

Hostage

We’re thrilled today to have a guest post from Cheryl Headford, the author of the new book Hostage: Anger is one of those things that both tear down and build up. Both kinds of anger appear in Hostage. Rowan’s anger is his driving force. It has lodged itself deep in his heart and colours everything he thinks and does. In particular it dominates his relationship … Read more
